T’was the night before Christmas
and all through the house
not a creature was stirring …
apart from several mice (we discovered an infestation of them in the pantry three days ago), my two dogs who are chewing all the wrapping paper scattered about the lounge room due to last-minute present buying, my mother trying to organise all the food for tomorrow, the neighbours asking if we want to go Christmas carolling (do people still do that over here??), the phone ringing with people wishing us a Merry Christmas who forgot (or were too busy) to send cards (we’re in the same situation – everyone gets New Years cards from us now), and a million other things that go on during the day of Christmas Eve.
On top of the chaos that is Christmas, our family are also on tenderhooks, waiting to hear if my heavily pregnant soon-to-be-sister-in-law has gone into labour yet. Yep, we are due for a blessed event – my second niece (we already know it’s a girl) is due on Christmas Day. Poor kid – birthday and Christmas all at once – means one present for the two events. But, then again, if the amount of gifts my mother has bought for my 4 year old niece (niece No. 1) is any indication, the new one won’t miss out on much – we have enough barbie dolls, clothing and toys to cover several birthdays and Christmas’s! It’s like a toy shop in here!!
Anyway, from the madness that is my Christmas to yours, I’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays and Happy New Year. Here’s to peace on earth, goodwill to all and a wonderful and successful 2006!
