Yes, it’s true. That ground-breaking, informative and most of all – entertaining series of film and movie events known as “Popcorn Taxi” is back in Melbourne.
I had the great pleasure of assisting on the official return event of Melbourne Popcorn Taxi on Tuesday, July 22 at Cinema Nova – the Melbourne Premier of “The Square”, the debut feature film from those talented Edgerton brothers – Joel Edgerton (STAR WARS: EPISODE II – ATTACK OF THE CLONES, THE HARD WORD, NED KELLY, THE NIGHT WE CALLED IT A DAY, KING ARTHUR, STAR WARS: EPISODE III – REVENGE OF THE SITH and KINKY BOOTS) and Nash Edgerton (THE MATRIX TRILOGY, STAR WARS II and III, THIN RED LINE and SUPERMAN RETURNS), distributed by Village Roadshow.
It was a fantastic night, everyone had a brilliant time and the Q&A held afterward with Joel (Writer/Actor), Nash (Director), co-star Claire Van Der Boom and Producer, Louise Smith (interviewed by well-known Melbourne film critic, Paul Harris) was insightful and very funny. The film itself is gripping, stylish and very cleverly done. Beautifully written, shot, acted and directed – as Popcorn Taxi Creative Director, Chris Murray said in his intro “Urban Noir or Suburban Thriller – you decide”. Certainly a movie everyone should see – especially if you want to see how an Australian film can successfully tackle genre filmmaking.
Popcorn Taxi’s next Melbourne event will take place on August 17 in celebration of the release of Warner Bros’ remastered “Dirty Harry Collection” – presenting DIRTY HARRY in HD Digital on the big screen.
What’s so exciting about an HD Digital screening of “Dirty Harry”? Apart from Popcorn Taxi being the first company to show the remastered version on the big screen in the WORLD, here’s the technical scoop from Popcorn Taxi’s website: “With the assistance of Sony’s revolutionary CineAlta 4K SXRD Technology (currently the only commercially available Digital Cinema system in the world to project at 4K resolution), the Dirty Harry films will be presented in 5.1 Dolby® Digital via Sony’s HDCAM SR playback system, ensuring that the films will look nothing short of spectacular on the big screen!”
And, not only that, but you can also get tickets to see “Magnum Force” AND “The Enforcer” – also in HD Digital. A whole day of Dirty Harry movies in HD Digital, on the big screen!! Now, THAT’S a film event!
